A Cyclist Champion’s Impelling Journey

Shayna’s journey kicked off with running, but cycling is where she truly found her groove. Over 12 years as a pro, she snagged the 2024 Chicago Grit overall title, nabbed third place in the 2022 Milton Nations Cup team pursuit, and claimed the sprint classification in the 2023 Tour of the Gila. Her versatility was on full display with impressive finishes like fifth in the 2021 Unbound 200 Gravel Race and third in the mixed team category at the 2019 Cape Epic. She didn’t stop there—becoming a two-time national champion in XC mountain biking and XTERRA triathlon, and proudly wearing her country’s colors at the World Championships and Pan American Games. It’s the kind of career that turns heads, not just for the medals and titles, but for the heart behind it, as evidenced by her 2025 United Natives Community Impact award for her work with the Dream Catcher Foundation.

When she retired, Shayna didn’t just kick back. She started Powless Performance, coaching cyclists, and teamed up with her husband, Eli Ankou, to launch the Dream Catcher Foundation, a project that gets Indigenous kids into sports. Her efforts earned her the United Natives Community Impact Award in 2025. Now 31, she’s still all about staying active and giving back.
